Why January is the Perfect Time to Start a New Skincare Routine
Your social calendar is free, you’re (just about) tired of the indulgent food and drink filled festivities, it’s time for a fresh start. New years resolutions sometimes get a bad rep, and for good reason - many promote unhealthy or extreme measures to achieve new goals and don’t embrace a realistic approach to establishing new, workable resolutions that fit our already busy schedules. That’s why we’re here with 5 skincare (or self-care) resolutions you’ll actually look forward to.
New Year's Skincare Resolution #1: Skincare Clearout
First, cleanse your skincare, then cleanse your skin. There's nothing more liberating than a deep skincare clear-out—what better way to kick off your 2025 skincare resolutions than with a full cabinet refresh? Toss that half-used serum that doesn't suit your skin type, get rid of empty or expired products, and recharge your LED light therapy mask (which has probably been out of battery since December). Don’t forget to deep clean your cleansing brushes, makeup tools, and any other skincare devices
New Year's Skincare Resolution #2: Start Double Cleansing
Maybe you already know you should be double cleansing (especially after heavy make-up days) but you haven't yet taken the plunge. Double cleansing is a technique that involves cleansing your face twice to ensure all dirt and make-up is removed. The first cleanse should be done with an oil-based cleanser to break down any make-up or residue and the second cleanse should be done with a water-based cleanser to really purify the skin. If you still feel your skin isn’t as clean as it should be or you have particularly oily skin, introducing a cleansing brush during your second cleanse is a great way to remove excess build-up while protecting your gentle skin barrier. Getting on top of your cleansing is the best skincare New Year's resolution for oily skin.
New Year's Skincare Resolution #3: Sleep Your Way to Better Skin
The concept of ‘beauty sleep’ is very much grounded in reality - and the more hours of good quality sleep you have can really enhance your complexion. Poor sleepers tend to have higher levels of transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which can lead to dehydration. While we sleep, our skin like the rest of our body repairs itself leading to improved elasticity and skin firmness. Between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night is important to protect skin health.
New Year's Skincare Resolution #4: Top Up Your Sunscreen Throughout the Day
If you want to incorporate just one skincare New Year's resolution for anti-aging let it be this: reapply your sunscreen every two hours especially when you are in the sun. During the winter months, it may be hard to motivate yourself around the importance of SPF but even when it's cloudy, UV rays are still present. UV rays from the sun may account for up to 80% of visible signs of aging and without SPF, the rest of your skincare routine is essentially redundant.

New Year's Skincare Resolution #5: Explore the World of Beauty Tech
January is a time for relaxation, saving, and self-care, making it the perfect opportunity to invest in an at-home skincare device instead of keeping up with in-clinic appointments. Many multi-functional beauty technology devices can replace multiple steps of your skincare routine and support skin rejuvenation beyond the surface. Red light therapy for example is clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by triggering collagen production deep within the skin cells. At-home skin tightening devices with radio frequency, ultrasound, EMS, and electroporation are also proven to boost skin health and appearance, combat premature signs of aging and treat acne and hyperpigmentation.
